Pair of Skis
Skiing can be dated back to around 4000 BC with rock drawings in Norway and primitive ski's found in a peat bog in Sweden. The word ski means stick of wood in Norwegian and enables man to move across the land during and after the ice age.
Lots of variations of ski's and sledges have been found since then, all having a practical use.
It wasn't until the late 1800's that a gentleman called Sondre Norheim (often called the father of skiing) invented the then modern equipment, ski's and poles, that led to the modern equipment we use today. Norheim invented a binding made from birch, that stopped your feet from falling off the skis.
In 1903 the first packaged ski holidays were organized in Switzerland and In 1905, the first national ski tournament was held in Michigan. The Alpine Ski Club was founded in 1908.
The first winter olympic games were held in St Moritz in 1924 and so skiing as a sport and a past time was born. During the 1950's and 60's, skiing became a sport for the affluent middle class, as hotels and lifts were constructed and skiing resports sprang up around the world, real estate prices rose. Telemark skiing was again popular in the late 1970's, so that skiers could access steeper mountain environments, where no ski lift was available.
Snowboarding became fashionable in the late 1980's as the young generation with their vibrant dress sense and culture found it an easier sport to learn. This in turn made ski wear extremely fashionable and exciting designers entered the industry, producing more fashionable and technologically advanced equipment.
I love skiing and snowboarding, in fact I enjoy the whole experience, from waking up in a beautiful log cabin or apartment, surrounded by crisp White Snow, sitting out eating and drinking in glorious sunshine with breathtaking views, to enjoying the unforgettable night life. You would think that skiing all day would result in an early night, but maybe the saying if you work hard you play hard holds true, either that or it's an opportunity to boast about your on piste exploits!!

Ski Slope Paradise
Whether apres-ski in some resorts might be a few quiet beers or a full blown evening out with bars, nightclubs and casinos, I am experienced them all and each has it's own special place in my memories.
A ski holiday encompasses so much more than just skiing and I implore anyone who hasn't to give it a try. Skiing isn't that difficult once you have had a few sessions and once hooked there is no turning back!!.
I have created this website to give visitors a flavour of this amazing pastime and hope you get as much pleasure from it as I do.
